Undergraduate Audition Requirements
WOODWINDS
Selected major scales and arpeggios as well as a chromatic scale over the entire range of the instrument. Sight-reading of moderate difficulty. In addition, prepare 1-2 selections demonstrating level of musicianship and technical proficiency. The following suggested repertoire should be considered "representative" of the level of entrance for each instrument.

The following suggested repertoire is representative of the entrance level for each instrument:
Violin :Select a movement from a concerto by a composer such as Bruch, Mendelssohn, Mozart, or another prominent composer. The contrasting piece may be a partita or sonata by Bach, or a similar work. Students may obtain further guidance on audition repertoire by contacting violin faculty directly.

PERCUSSION
The candidate shall demonstrate satisfactory performing ability in the following areas. The suggested repertoire (specified by instrument) should be considered representative of the level of entrance for a percussion student.
A) Snare drum:Rudimental Solo from Wilcoxen: All American Drummer , No. 121-150
Concert Solo from Goldenberg: Modern School for Snare Drum (pp 64-68)
Solo-Etude from Goldenburg: Modern School for Xylophone, Marimba, Vibraphone (pp. 62-93)
C) Timpani:Modern Method for Timpani by Saul Goodman (pp. 62-68)
D) Drumset (additional requirements for Jazz Studies majors only) :Perform a drumset solo which includes styles in rock, jazz and latin. Play examples from the following styles as outlined below:
1. Jazz style: Play quarter note at: 120, 150 and 200 M.M.
: 4 bars time, 4 bars solo :
2. Latin style: Basic Samba, Bossa Nova, and Funk. Play quarter note at: 100 M.M.

VOICE
Students seeking acceptance for vocal study in the School of Music are required to sing an audition. An accompanist will be provided. No taped or CD accompaniments please.
Freshmen applicants
Applicants should prepare two art songs or arias from the classical literature in contrasting styles and in two languages from memory, demonstrating their vocal ability and musicianship. Failure to present memorized music at an audition is unacceptable and your application as a voice major will no longer be under consideration. One selection should be in English. An example of appropriate repertoire would be a selection from 24 Italian Songs and Arias, G. Schirmer, publisher. Students will also be asked to sight-read.
Transfer applicants
Transfer students must prepare three memorized selections in contrasting styles and languages from classical vocal literature. A repertoire list of literature studied as an undergraduate must be presented at the time of the audition. Students will also be asked to sight-read.
PIANO (to be performed from memory)
All major and minor scales (natural, melodic and harmonic forms), 4 octaves, in 16ths; metronome speed of quarter note = 112.
All major and minor arpeggios, 4 octaves, in 16ths; metronome speed of quarter note = 40.
A two-part invention, three-part invention, or prelude and fugue from the "Well-Tempered Clavier" of J.S. Bach.
A fast movement of a sonata by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven.
A work from the romantic period or the 20 th century.
Intermediate-level sight-reading.
ORGAN
All major and minor scales (natural, melodic and harmonic forms), 4 octaves, in 16ths; metronome speed of quarter note = 112.
All major and minor arpeggios, 4 octaves, in 16ths; metronome speed of quarter note = 40.
One chorale prelude from the Orgelbuchlein, BWV 599-644, by J.S. Bach. One of the Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, BWV 553-560, by J.S. Bach.
One chorale prelude by Johannes Brahms, Flor Peeters, or Helmut Walcha.
CLASSICAL GUITAR
1. Perform two contrasting studies of moderate difficulty of the candidate's choice from the following collections:
Carcassi, Op. 60
Giuliani, Op. 48
Sor, various opus numbers (Segovia collection or equivalent)

2. Sight reading: The candidate will play from sight a work no longer than one page demonstrating the candidate's ability to present the most basic harmonic and melodic elements of guitar music at sight.
3. Scales: The candidate must be prepared to play 3 major scales of 2 or 3 octaves upon request
4. Optional Free Choice: One additional work of candidate's choice from any era. (limit: 5 minutes)

MUSIC MANAGEMENT INTERVIEW
1. Arrive early and dress conservatively.
2. Be able to articulate your long and short-term goals in becoming a professional in the music industry.
Be prepared to discuss your experience with music.
The interviewer may ask about your SAT scores or about any music classes you may be transferring in from another college or university.
