Message from the President

Welcome to the web site of the Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. This site is a service to our membership and should make information concerning student auditions, fall and summer master classes, business items, membership, the Executive Board, and other items more readily available.

You can access information and forms for student auditions, master classes and other events from this site. Our registrar will send an email or snail mail notifying you of the upcoming event. You will then go to the web site and download any forms or information for yourself or students. The appropriate materials and payments should be mailed to the registrar by the application deadline.

As the new Executive Board takes over May 1, 2008, I would like to thank and recognize those who have served so well the past two years: Toni Anderson for her able leadership, and who will continue to serve us well as Regional Governor; Linda Banister, who has done a wonderful job as our District Governor; Dwight Coleman, who, as Past President, was instrumental in initiating and maintaining this website; Martha Malone, who helped bring us outstanding educational programs as Education Co-Chair; and finally David Thomas, who was indefatigable and thorough as our Registrar.

I look forward to working with those who are continuing in their former positions and those who have been elected to new ones: Rebecca Lanning, our new Vice-President; Kathryn Hartgrove, Secretary; Leroy Bynum, who will continue as Treasurer; Teri Hopkin, who will join forces with Dian Lawler-Johnson as Education Co-Chair; Wendy Mullen who will re-join the Executive Board as Membership Chair; Sherri Weiler, who moves from Membership Chair to Registrar; Matt Hoch, our new Repertoire Consultant; Patricia Callaway continuing as Webmaster; and Dwight Coleman, who will continue as Past-President while Toni serves as Regional Governor. All of these fine people are here to help the Chapter continue to be one of the most active chapters in our organization.

As a chapter, we are in very good shape. We had a wonderful 2007 fall master class with Timothy Hoekman, entered 387 students in 23 categories in the 2008 state auditions, and initiated photo and resume sessions at the auditions. We are also financially solvent!

Another initiative I would like to accomplish in my tenure is creating more student NATS Chapters in Georgia. Student chapters in other states have proven to be very worthwhile and helpful to those who belong. More about this at state auditions February 20-21, 2009, at Kennesaw State, see you there!
