The Marching Band is a high-energy corps style group consisting of talented music majors from the School of Music and non-majors from throughout the university. The band is one of the largest and most visible student organizations on the Georgia State University campus and fills stadiums around the region with drumbeats and songs that rouse the spirit of the Panther pride. The instrumentation of the band is woodwinds, brass, percussion, color guard, and a rock band front ensemble consisting of electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, and drum set. The Marching Band is led by Dr. Chester Phillips, Director of Athletic Bands, as well as a talented staff that includes graduate students in the Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting[PDF] degree program and skilled instructors and performers from Winter Guard International and Drum Corps International groups.
The Marching Band performs a wide range of repertoire from rock, pop, hip-hop, classical, jazz, and more. Membership is gained through successful audition in the spring semester and the ensemble rehearses on Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
