Part Two:"Slow Lip Slurs"
Back to the Routine Index
What's most important here is to strive
for smooth, flowing CURVES of sound. Don't try to "slot"
these notes, but rather glide from one note to the next.
Have an image of gently rolling hills........Keep these soft,
unforced, and RICH with sound. Speed is NOT an issue. In fact,
I suggest keeping them nice and slow (m.m.=76 or less for
the Quarter Note). Your tongue position will cause the note to
change, not your embouchure. Practice saying these syllables out
loud: "OH-AH-EE-AH-OH". This is exactly the motion your
tongue will make on 3-note slurs. Obviously, you won't be saying
the syllables out loud through your horn.
