Dr. Steven Harper
Graduate Director, School of Music / Associate Professor, Theory
Steven A. Harper received his Ph.D. in music theory from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Music in music theory from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music in music theory and composition from the University of Louisville. Before coming to Georgia State, Dr. Harper taught at The University of Texas at Austin and Angelo State University. Dr. Harper has published essays on the music of Beethoven, Sibelius, Webern, and the Swedish composer Åke Hermanson. He became Director of Graduate Studies in August 2007.
Dr. Harper is married to soprano Dr. Tamara Watson Harper of Reinhardt College. The Harpers live in Atlanta with their son, Dean.
