The Basketball Band is a spirited ensemble whose core mission is to play high-energy music at a quality performance level and to inspirit the teams and fans of Georgia State University. The Basketball Band is open to all university students by audition and has an instrumentation including piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, mellophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, sousaphones, drum set, and bass guitar. The band performs at most men and women's home basketball games and at post-season tournaments for each team. The Basketball Band provides a large part of the atmosphere in the sports arena during the games by being the loudest and most spirited supporters of the GSU teams. Recent tournaments have brought the band to the Georgia Dome and Philips Arena as well as to Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and Virginia. The band has appeared numerous times on national television.

Auditions are held in late September with rehearsals beginning in October. The basketball season runs from late November until March. For more information contact, Dr. Chester B. Phillips, Director of Athletic Bands.
