The Georgia State University School of Music and Rialto Center for the Arts present Grammy-nominated trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas in concert with the University Jazz Band under the direction of Gordon Vernick. The concert will take place on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. at the Rialto Center for the Arts. Mr. Douglas will also lead a free masterclass on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Room 002 of the Rialto Center (basement level, entrance on Forsyth Street), in downtown Atlanta.

Arguably one of the most prolific and original trumpeters and composers of his generation, jazz musician Dave Douglas continues to earn lavish national and international acclaim including being named trumpeter, composer, and jazz “Artist of the Year” by everyone from the New York Jazz Awards and DownBeat to Jazz Times and the Italian Jazz Critics’ Society.  The Georgia State University Jazz Band, founded over 30 years ago and led by Gordon Vernick, has backed notables like Nicholas Payton, Slide Hampton, David Snchez, Jon Faddis, Jimmy Heath and Joe Lovano.
