The Georgia State University School of Music played a large role in the investiture ceremony and celebrations that took place on October 19, 2009. The day-long celebration, themed "Envisioning Our Second Century," featured a procession down Piedmont Avenue with drummers, the Georgia State ROTC and more than 100 delegates representing colleges, universities and organizations from around the country. The procession also featured more than 150 GSU faculty members, vice presidents and deans, officers of the university as well as Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. All were robed in formal academic regalia. The ceremony featured the Georgia State University Symphony Orchestra, Combined Choruses and student soloists performing under the baton Michael Palmer. A student jazz combo performed at the reception immediately following the reception, and a student string quintet played at the Investiture gala dinner in the evening. Thanks and congratulations go out to the many talented students of the School of Music, as well as to faculty and staffers Helene Erenberg, Michael Palmer, Jeffery Wall, Patrick Freer, Jason McCullough, Ken Long, Gordon Vernick, Brandt Fredriksen and Christos Galileas for helping to make the Investiture a great success.
